In 2018, it was decided to expand and modernize the fermentation plant in Lana/Bolzano, which has been in operation since 2007. The design and implementation of the conversion by Finsterwalder Umwelttechnik into an innovative model plant was successfully completed in summer 2021. The expanded pre-treatment system is scheduled to go into operation in 2022. A doubling of output is planned. At present, the Italian showcase plant has a treatment potential of 30,000 tons per year. 40 municipalities from the South Tyrolean region currently deliver their biowaste to Lana. The operators relied on Finsterwalder technology for the implementation of the fermentation plant and its expansion. Simplified treatment processes make it possible to reuse all organic substances in the biowaste and to optimize energy recovery.
